We are focusing our climate change scenario planning efforts on a few montane and high elevation species that are well studied in the Northwestern U.S.
- Whitebark pine and other western 5-needle pines such as foxtail, linber, and Great Basin bristlecone - this suite of pines are keystones of mountain ecosystems in the west.
- American Pika - this little relative of rabbits is an iconic, although often overlooked, denizen of the mountainous west. You may catch glimpses of them while they gather "hay" for winter or bark their alarm calls as they scurry among the rocks and scree.
